The members of the Fatima Shrine Bible Study under the leadership of Father Peter Calabrese, CRSP discussed the readings of Sunday July 5, 2009 the 14th Sunday of Ordinary Time.
Father Peter noted that these particular readings form a broad continuum. In Ezekiel Chapter 2 the people of that time were not overly willing to follow the Lord. When the Israelites strayed they did not realize that they would be heading for disaster.
In the Gospel of Mark for the 14th Sunday of Ordinary Time, Father Peter noted that there is a certain irony in the various remarks of this Gospel. There are internal conflicts in verses 5 and 6. Biblical scholars find this to be a difficult Gospel to read yet at the same time this a more authentic text.
Father Peter also noted that true faith is a deep relationship with God.
